Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Newport RI
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Newport located in Newport Rhode Island, is the Navy's full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support center for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, and offensive and defensive weapons systems associated with undersea warfare.

Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard's primary mission is the overhaul, repair and modernization of LOS ANGELES Class submarines. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard provides the U.S. Navy's nuclear powered submarine fleet with quality overhaul work in a safe, timely and affordable manner. This includes a full spectrum of in-house support--from engineering services and production shops, to unique capabilities and facilities, to off-site support--all of which serves the multifaceted assortment of fleet requirements.
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNS) is one of four naval shipyards in the nation. Centrally located about 50 miles from Boston, Massachusetts, Portland, Maine and Manchester, New Hampshire, at the southernmost tip of Maine, the Shipyard fully encompasses Seavey Island that sits at the mouth of the Piscataqua River. This federally-owned island is across the harbor from Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with access to the mainland by two bridges that connect to Kittery, Maine.
PNS encompasses over 297 acres including the main base and a family housing site off base in Kittery, Maine. PNS has three dry docks and is capable of docking all active classes of submarines including the LOS ANGELES and TRIDENT classes. Many of the buildings located at the Shipyard are in an historic district and 50 buildings are liste d on the National Register of Historic Places.
